DamCollect Privacy Policy

DamCollect is a professional field data-collection app for dam-safety engineers, published by Dam Safety Services (“we,” “us”). It is used by authorized personnel of dam-owning and engineering organizations to record instrumentation readings in the field. This policy explains what the app collects, why, and your choices.

Information we collect

• Account & identity. If you use Sign in with Apple, we receive only the name and email Apple provides (including a Hide My Email address if you choose it). We do not use that account for advertising. If you sign in with your organization’s Microsoft (Azure AD) account, we receive your name and email to identify you and determine which dams you may access. You can also continue without an account; that path stays on the device.
• Precise location (optional, while using the app). If you allow it, we use it to show nearby instruments and to stamp a reading with where it was taken. Location is collected only while the app is in use; there is no background tracking. You can decline location and still use the map, add a dam, and save readings.
• Field data you enter. Instrument readings, observations, notes, and collection method you record.
• Photos you attach. Photos you choose to capture or select and attach to a reading.
• Diagnostic data. Basic technical information needed to operate the app (e.g., sync status).

How we use it

Solely to provide the app: to authenticate you, show the dams and instruments you are authorized to access, record and sync your readings and photos to the DamSafety.IO platform, and place instruments on the map. We do not use your data for advertising, and we do not sell or rent personal information. We do not use third-party tracking.

Storage & security

Data is stored in Microsoft Azure (United States), encrypted in transit. Photos are stored in a private Azure Blob Storage container and are only accessible through short-lived, signed links. Access is restricted to your organization and authorized DamSafety.IO personnel.

Sharing

Your readings and observations are shared with your organization (the dam owner/operator) and its authorized users within the DamSafety.IO platform. We use Microsoft Azure as our cloud/authentication provider. We disclose information if required by law.

Permissions

• Location (When In Use, optional): nearest-instrument sorting and geotagging readings. The app works if you decline.
• Camera / Photo Library: attaching a photo to a reading.

Data retention & account deletion

You can delete your DamCollect account directly in the app (Profile → Delete Account) or by emailing support@damsafety.io. Deletion takes effect immediately and signs you out. Sign in with Apple and guest data stored on the device is removed with that action. Microsoft-provisioned identities are not removed from your organization’s Azure AD directory. Remaining personal field metadata associated with an organization account is purged by an administrator in accordance with the organization’s dam-safety recordkeeping obligations. Instrument reading values may be retained as part of the dam’s engineering record.

Children

DamCollect is a workforce tool and is not directed to children.
